FAQ
Is WFD free?
The core app is free. Plus features (Apple Watch app, themes, cookbook PDF export, restaurant data, multi-week planning) are bundled in a single inexpensive subscription with a 30-day trial. Try it for a month, decide later.
Does my family need to subscribe separately?
No. Apple Family Sharing handles WFD subscriptions automatically — one subscriber covers the whole family group.
What devices does WFD run on?
iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch. The Watch app is the fastest way to log dinner without unlocking your phone — great for the babysitter or the spouse who’s already cooking.
How does the “What do I have?” feature work?
You type or speak ingredients you have on hand. WFD checks every meal in your library for matches and shows you what you can make right now, what’s close, and what’s missing. For partial matches, one tap drops the missing ingredients in your shopping list.
Can I import recipes from a URL?
Yes — Recipe Import reads JSON-LD recipe metadata from most major recipe sites. The full recipe (title, photo, ingredients, instructions) becomes a meal in your library. URL-imported recipes are protected — WFD never overwrites their content.
Does WFD have voice control?
Yes. Ask WFD lets you say things like “what’s for dinner?” or “find me something Italian for tonight” and get back a real spoken suggestion. Voice runs on-device via Apple Intelligence; nothing leaves your phone.
Do my meals sync between my devices?
Through your iCloud, yes. WFD uses CloudKit which is Apple’s per-user cloud storage. Your iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch all see the same library because they all read from your iCloud. We don’t host the data ourselves.
Can I share my library with my family?
Yes — shared households use CloudKit sharing. You and your spouse see the same meal library, the same Queue, the same shopping list, the same week of plans. Apple’s infrastructure does the sync directly between your iCloud accounts.
What’s the cooking instructions feature?
Every meal in your library gets step-by-step cooking instructions. Type a meal name, tap Auto-pick on the instructions field, and WFD writes you cleanly-numbered steps based on the ingredients you have. There’s also a one-shot backfill in Settings that adds instructions to every meal in your library in about two minutes.
Can I print a recipe?
Yes. Every meal can be exported as a single-page PDF (photo, ingredients, instructions, notes) through the iOS share sheet. From there: Print, AirDrop, Save to Files, Mail, Messages — wherever you cook.
What about allergies and dietary restrictions?
Add the people who eat with you, set their diets and allergies, and the suggestion engine respects them. Allergens are hard-excluded from suggestions for that person. Allergy warnings appear on meal rows so you don’t miss them.
Can WFD pick a restaurant for me?
Yes. The Eat Out mode finds restaurants nearby filtered by distance, cuisine, price, and rating. Yelp data is integrated for Plus users. Pin restaurants to your queue and they show up alongside meals in your weekly plan.
Why “What’s for dinner tonight”?
It’s the question every family asks every day. WFD answers it without making you scroll a feed, watch an ad, or feel like you’re feeding a recommendation algorithm. We picked a domain name that says what the app does.
